How much should your wedding cost?

Start saving up for your wedding.

The average wedding cost is now $35,329, according to The Knot Real Weddings Survey. After gathering data from an estimated 13,000 brides and grooms who married in 2016, that cost reflects the average amount spent throughout all 50 United States. Since 2015, that average wedding cost increased by $2,688. Weddings are growing in pricey-ness, most likely due to the growing trend of giving guests unique, memorable experiences at the event.

If you’re planning for your upcoming wedding, do not panic. Keep in mind that number is the one smack-dab in the middle. That average wedding cost takes the lowest, most budget-friendly weddings and the most grandiose, outrageous weddings and finds the number in the middle. You don’t need a hovercraft to deliver your groom at the alter, but you also don’t need to use paper plates for the reception dinner.

An average wedding cost also varies by destination, not just by state. Los Angeles, CA averages to $44,062, while San Francisco levels out to $42,716. The entire state of Utah raises to $20,337, while Chicago, IL is a shocking $60,035. These prices include venues, catering services, guest accommodations, music choices, and much more.

Use this average wedding cost as a sort of margin for your ideal wedding, or consider looking into ideas on ways to save. More importantly, make sure to keep tabs on how much you are spending on each part of your wedding. It happens all too commonly: a couple severely surpasses their wedding budget because of failing to add up each and every thing they are paying for. This may mean not getting live music at your reception, but providing a larger dance floor for your much-anticipated father-daughter dance and for your guests.

Your ideal wedding depends on what you and your spouse want to spend. Whether this average applies to you and your partner or not, proper planning and money-counting will make for an outstanding ceremony. All while keeping your wallets happy.
